Jack Benny has trouble with his cast, and wants to just bend them over his knee. Anniversaries, toupees, and general rebellion over their parts in the hillbilly production Jack plans, with his version of the hit film, Tobacco Road. Jack is even still having trouble with that Mexican trio from a few weeks ago, who are waiting for mañana (tomorrow) to be paid. Phil Harris plays a bouncy, jazzy tune to transition.
Don Wilson is forced into reading Jack’s corny commercial. When Dennis Day arrives, we find out about his part, and that Mary Kelley (the ever rotund Blue Fairy) will be playing the young, thin, love interest. Phil plays a short transition of, Coming Round the Mountain.
To get into the spirit of the film, the cast kick off their shoe’s, and muss up their hair. The setting for Tobacco road is a hundred years in the past. Jack and Mary talk about their kids, and the lazy life style of the times. Is the family destined for the poor house? If so, what’s wrong with that? If only they can get their daughter Ellie May married off to the rich Phil “Swith” Harris. Will the family be rescued from banker Wilson?
