Further complications have arisen over the article that Squire wrote about Lum, and his winning the music competition. The gents discover that a seven-year-old boy was the actual winner, and that Lum’s prize was in a comedy presentation award.

Sheepishly, Lum has to explain to Abner what went wrong, and how he ended up with a comedy prize. It has been especially difficult for Lum, seeing as how miss Platt was so impressed with his award. Has his coverups meant that he has lost the affection of the school teacher?

Abner feels horrible about Lum’s miss Fortune, and wants to make it right. Should Lum just call her on the phone and explain? Abner has some last moment advice for Lum, but will it really help the matter?
