Jack Benny – Dennis Returns From The Navy. 460317

What could be a better day for the Irish tenor, Dennis Day, to return to the show than St Patrick’s day? Mary and Phil each enter with their Irish jokes. With being in the Navy for the past 2 years, has Dennis changed much? The telephone operators, Mabel and Gertrude gossip over the recent contest about, “Why I Hate Jack Benny.” Is Jack really the sneaky type on a date, and what does that mean anyway? Since Dennis can’t be reached, Phil plays a number, Who’s Sorry Now.

Dennis makes his big appearance, and shares a little about his time in the South Pacific. He tells how he was classified as an Ensign, the Navy’s equivilent of a 2nd Lieutenant. Dennis sings, Danny Boy.

To demonstrate to Dennis what the state of radio has been in the past 2 years, Jack puts on a spoof of Fred Allen. Mary spoofs Portland Hoffa as, Cleveland. On Allen’s Alley, Senator Harris tells how he’s a man of the West and hates all things East. Will he answer the question, “Who is the better comedian, Benny or Allen?” Titus Day puts on the rustic airs to tell about his reading list, and henhouse production. Mr Kitzel tells about his hot dog business. Who is his favorite radio comedian? Rochester Openshore shares a poetic word. The fun ends up.as Phil plays the show out
