Don jokes about the climate of the Garden Spot of the desert, and how Jack managed to catch a cold. Coming back to tease Don about sightseeing on a donkey, Jack turns to Mary and her tanned complexion. Mary teases Jack about his Western style cowboy garb. Phil enters with jokes on drinking, and his band.
Phil plays a hit tune of the time, Doctor Lawyer or Indian Chief. Jack has trouble describing what a philabuster is. Oh wait I mispelled that: philabuster, c-a-t, philabuster. (Just listen in, and that one will make more sense.) Rochester phones in with bad news about Jack’s car. He had an encounter with a train. Larry Stevens sings, Aren’t You Glad You’re You.
Jack asks the gang over to the house he’s renting for his stay in Palm Springs. In flashback mode, Mary tells how Jack came to rent Eddie Cantor’s house. After meeting Mr Kitzel the hot dog salesman, and getting it for a special price, Mary wants food that’s more substantial. In the restaurant, Frank Nelson is the waiter, and recently discharged veteran. Jack spots Eddie Cantor, and wants to rent Eddie’s house for nothing. Can he do it? The two old time vaudevillians joke about age, being cheap, food, and more.
Note: Both Jack and Eddie make the same joke, that they wish they look as good as the other when they are his age. In real life, they’re the same age, although Eddi is a couple weeks older.
