Lum has had trouble containing himself over his win to be back on the school board. Today we find him pitching a play he wrote to promote the Merchant Marine. Using statistics needed to supply men to transport cargo around the world for the war effort, Lum recruits Abner, Cedric, and Mousey to play their roles.
Jobs include first mate, telegrapher, and engineer. Admiral Captain Lum gets his assistant Abner confused with nautical terms like mess, cabin, battening the hatches, and more. Telegrapher Cedric has fun when Admiral Captain Lum buzzes for him.
Act 2 finds recruiter grandpap talking to a gruff prospect. Ironsides Mousey seems like a good candidate to fill the bill. A phone call from Gussey comes in, and could cost a prime recruit for the cause.
