Halls of Ivy – His Fathers Image. ep55, 510314

Audio quality is OK. Sounds like it was recorded over open speakers, and has some scratchiness.

The Halls discuss hero worship. How does it impact development of the younger generation? Childhood nicknames are hinted at, then a visit from an old friend is expected. The Texas mailman shares some family gossip as he delivers the mail.

Alan Richards is Toddy’s old friend and is expecting to have his son be arriving any moment. In the meantime, dad gets the Halls caught up on his son’s football prowess. If the boy is as good as his dear old dad, the Halls’s know he’ll serve the campus just fine. Junior hasn’t showed up, and as the hour grows late, dad gets worried. Is this a matter of Junior being rude, or is thee some trouble he might be in? An apologetic phone call from Junior doesn’t reveal much, or does it?

Instead of burning up the long distance phone lines, the Halls decide to visit young Junior face to face. Living in the shadow of his all star dad has been too much for him. Dad talks a good talk in letting his son be his own person, but Junior isn’t feeling the love.

Is he being entirely honest with the Halls? Can they open lines of communication between father and son to clarify how they each feel about the other? Father and son both could use some coaching in expressing their love for each other.
