Jim is an old prospector with a gold mine that’s really producing. Eric is a friend who keeps the gold dust in his safe, and is expecting his young granddaughter to be delivered to his place by Sgt Preston of the mounties. Sally is a girl full of questions, and enjoys driving the dog sled around as much as King likes pulling her around in it.
As the pair have fun on their own, Preston learns about Scorpion Sam. He’s an abusive miner who wants to be friendly, but just can’t bring himself to do it. After a fire, Sam was killed, and Eric tells about his hidden secret. A wealth of gold was split among the only 3 people who were close to the crabby man. Preston thinks the right thing to do is locate Sam’s heirs, if there are any, and give them the gold.
Eric soon learns about some of the troubles that gold can bring when men come to his store, demanding that he open his safe. Will they let Sally freeze to death in the cabin, if he won’t cooperate? Will Preston be able to swoop in to save Eric? If he does, will Eric be discovered as equal in blame in a crime of robbery? Preston assures him that Sally is safe, and has a secret for Eric that more than clears him of any guilt.
