Jubilee – Erskine Hawkins, Nat King Cole. ep45, 430920

Host Ernie Whitman introduces Erskine Hawkins, who kicks off the show with , the Bicycle Bounce. Leo ‘Scatman’ Watson sings, or make that scats, a tune, hence his name. I’m not sure on the title of the song, but I thik it’s called, I Like Tooti Fruity. I never could quite understand the concept of “skat”. I think it’s just because the singer forgot the words. 🙂

After some mailbag greetings, Erskine Hawkins continues with, Get Up Blues. Vocals by Jimmy Mitchel. Next, the King Cole Trio sing, I Get a Kick.

Ernie gives a big introduction for Lena Horne. He chats with her about her dress, then Lena reads from the maiblbag before singing, The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else. After another short chat with Ernie, she continues with, Sweet Embraceable You. Ernie moves the show along and introduces Erskine’s next number, No Soap. Ernie and Lena share some parting words as the show signs off.
