Larry is missing, and the story in the newspaper is a lie. He is claimed to be a liar, thief, and killer. In voiceover, Miss Adams tells of the suspicious events that plague her as she sets out to clear her brother’s name. Who is Roxy, and what does she know? Accidents, and near misses abound as the trail of clues is followed.

She gets a little too close to real danger when she encounters the hardcase city gangsters, and their world of guns and violence. Murder enters the picture, and Joan is drawn down a trail she never counted on. Is she in too deep? Has the stain of murder affected her?
