A 60 minute musical pilot. Lum introduces the concept of the weekly musical program, while Abner spins up the records, scratching them, and adding comments over the songs.

The gents argue over who insulted Lum, gossip over the folks in town, .and get the Victrola started again. .

  • Tex Ritter and the Denning Sisters – Down in the Valley.
  • Grandpap enters, despite the sign indicating the gents are on the air. He has a corked up ear trumpet, but has forgot why he came over.
  • Roy Acuff – Tennessee Special # 9. The gents discuss how they love to ride a train as Roy sings.
  • It would be a good time for a sponsor message if one could be inserted here.
  • A red hot news flash comes over the party line, and Lum has to explain the boarding house happenings to Abner.
  • Grandpap remembers he needs to use the phone, but can’t remember what for.
  • Lum announces a contest winner, and Abner gets on a crossed up track to tell about his wedding day.
  • Bing and Gary Crosby sing, On Moonlight Bay, with added lyrics. .
  • Lum gets ready for his man on the street broadcast, while grandpap remembers he needs to make a Long distance phone call. He needs to call to say, he won’t be able to call. It saves him a call, and solves another mystery for him.
  • Musical interlude, and break into the second half.
  • Lum asks to play the music the listener wants to hear. Top hits, old favorites, or records to break… for real. Tunes you’re tired of hearing, and wish somebody would just shatter that disk.
  • Tennessee Ernie – Shotgun Boogie.
  • Abner marvels at the hint of a country twang in Tennessee’s voice. Good thing the gents are town boys, and don’t have that. Abner also goes on how his wife, Lizabeth is used to town living, and the woman’s work she does. Lum spins up a record before hitting the streets.
  • Mitchel – Truly Fair.
  • Man in the road reporter, Lum, interviews a young businessman on his way, Cedric. What’s his opinion on current trade policy? If he answers a question correctly, a listener stands to win a prize. Abner has a record ready to put a stop to the confusion on the street.
  • Les Paul and Mary Ford – Mockingbird Hill
  • Andrews Sisters and Red Foley – Satin and Lace.
  • Lum enters, still confused over his ordeal with Cedric, but gets ready to play the top hit of the environs around Pine Ridge. As soon as he explains to Abner what an environ is.
  • On Top of Old Smokey. Abner sings along with the choruses, much to Lum’s annoyance.
  • Lum reads a letter, telling about a favorite hometown character. An old, retired railroad man who spends his pension taking care of stray animals. Lum asks for more letters, then plays a favorite hymn.
  • Let the Lower Lights Be Burning.
