Halls of Ivy – Professor Warren’s Retirement. ep049, 510131

a request from old professor Warren asks a favor from Doc Hall. A book has come up missing, and he needs to borrow a copy, but should the old prof be doddering out on such a wintery evening? Some fun misunderstandings result, when Toddy decides to phone the old professor back with the particular passage he needs.

When prof Warren shows up, he tells how his time has come to retire, as he phrases it in the lingo of decommissioning a trusty Naval vessel. He shares his plans to travel, and assures Doc Hall that he’ll help his replacement take over. secrets about the old professor’s outlook comes to light, when his long time housekeeper, played by Verna Felton, lets Doc Hall know the poor estate of the retiring educator.

Spending time with the elder professor, the Halls enjoy some of his amusing anecdotes, and dreams he has held through his career. Is there any reason they couldn’t just let the old gent stay on, or is his retirement a forced thing? Does he want to stay on, even if the position is offered?

Note: Besides Verna Felton in a guest spot, the popular voice actor, Arthur Q Brian is professor Warren. He’s the voice behind such recognizable characters as Elmer Fudd, Doc Gamble (from Fibber McGee and Molly), Floyd the Barber (of the Gildersleeve program), and countless more.
