At an important meeting with Phil’s band, he wants Alice to break some bad news to the guys. Frankie tells, as much as he can remember, of his wild night, and new girlfriend. Joining the fun, Mr Scot rants about not having a script ready. Should Phil just sing for the full half hour? He and Alice sing a duet, Dear John.
The writers are on hand, with Singer and Chevrolet being played by Hans Conried and Joseph Kearns. They express their disdain over the sponsor, and the way Phil butchers their jokes. Will they come through with the script in time? Phil decides to take matters into his own hands, and writes his own script.
The next day, Phil uses sound schemes and story types from other popular radio shows from suspense to soap opera. Will Alice be having another baby, or is this just her trick to get Phil out of the house? She and Frankie conspire with Julius in a plot to knock off Phil. Will the oblivious Phil realize the plot against his life?
Note: In an ad lib during the kissing scene between Frankie and Alice, Phil’s comment for Cathy to get over here, is made to Frankie’s real life wife Cathy Lewis.
