Gildersleeve has been hanging out with the new school principle, and getting turned on to classical music. At home, he has a couple small fires to stomp out with the kids acting up. Leroy tries to learn a boogie woogie riff on piano, while Marjorie has been staying out late at the local teenage hangout.
Judge Hooker arrives for some good old fashioned teasing of Gildy over dating Miss Goodwin. He also tests the waters to see if Gildy still has feelings for Leila Ransom. She is returning to town soon,.
Leroy still tries to play his boogie woogie riff, but to maintain a high level of culture in the house, Gildy forces him to play the classical melody… repeatedly… to even the annoyance of Gildy. On a phone call, Marjorie hints at a hot date she had, but it brings up a tender spot, that Gildy never gets to use his own phone.
Though the kids are grounded to the house, Gildy goes to Peavey’s to use the phone booth. He barely manages to squeeze into the booth, but forces the issue when Peavey eavesdrops. He may need the jaws of life to get out of the mess. Back home, and the next morning, we learn the great man may still have some feelings for Leila.
