In the Gildersleeve home, Leroy and Gildy harmonize his unnamed song as Marjorie accompanies on piano. After a quick comment from Birdie, Gildy heads out to meet his newest gal, Nurse Milford.
Catherine is a dedicated worker in the health care profession, and just can’t leave on a whim. Gildy has to wait in the Maturnity Ward where a conversation with a nervous dad to be is also waiting. The encounter is enough to start a bond between the two men, and now it’s Gildy who wants to stay when Catherine is ready to leave work.
Gildersleeve provides moral support for his new found friend as he anxiously awaits the big event. He even orders out for sandwiches, but Peavey and Judge Hooker mistake why he is in the father’s waiting room, a set up that leads to the Judge delivering the food, and giving Gildy grief. The gossip mill spreads the word, and all of Gildy’s curious friends check on Gildy for themselves to lay on the jokes, and good natured teasing. Added humor is provided by a wisecracking doctor that laughs at inopportune moments.
Time passes, and the guys find themselves pulling an all nighter in the waiting room. How long does it take for a baby to arrive? Is there something wrong? Don’t worry, mom manages to work the baby out OK.
