Gunsmoke – Big Hands. 570804

A reproduction from an earlier script. Matt is approached by a timid woman who has the body of her homesteader husband in the back of the farm wagon. She seems confused as well as being distrought, and Matt shares his suspicions with Doc that she isn’t telling the whole story.

After helping the woman bury her husband, Matt acts on her description of the killer. A big bull of a man is in the Long Branch, but when taken to face the woman, she claims he isn’t the killer.

Not entirely satisfied, Matt puts word out on the telegraph for circulars on bandits meeting the description of the man. He’s a killer alright, and his motives fit the recent killing. On the farm, Matt is about to face down the man to serve up some blazing six-gun justice. Despite the ending, the woman is still in despair. She had actually taken on the killer as her ranchhand, since she had no other man to handle the hard work. Now she’s back to square one, and no man to work her farm.
