Lum tells about the patriotic duty, and the night time obligation of watching the skies for enemy aircraft.
The nights of Pine Ridge are full of activity with Mousey having a job as night watchman, Cedricworking at the defense plant, Diogenes printing pamphlets all night, and now Lum watching for airplanes.
Squire Skimp drops in the store, but how much should our friends tell himm about their secrets? Squire has a deposit for the new Victory boxes with scrap material for the war effort. He may be a shady character, but he’s a patriotic sneaky rival. Word of espionage and sabotage are shared, but a spirit of brotherly unity prevail in Pine Ridge.
A shadow of doubt begins to cloud the minds of both Lum and Abner. Might the packages that Diogenes wants delivered contain a bomb, or some other terrible thing? What’s that ticking sound?
