Adventures Of Macie – Next Stop Niagra Falls. 491215. (retro319).
Featuring Ann Southard as she recreates the same role you loved her in on the movie screen. Macie tells how she’s in the dumps, as she lives in her dump of an apartment. Macie is fed up with the playboys who normally hang around with gals like her, who are in show biz. She accepts a date from a mousey apartment dweller, but suddenly she gets word that her favorite boyfriend calls on her. Will they be getting back together? Her boyfriend Eddie has taken a new job as an insurance salesman. Will it be enough to get a life started together? As they talk about old times, Eddie is a little quick to remember Macie’s old rival back home.
Eddie takes a flat in the building, and Macie is reminded to keep the rules of the building as she talks with the matriarchal building manager. The hard nosed woman is strict on keeping the rules, but shares some motherly advice for keeping her boyfriend.
At dinner, Macie takes the advice and pays close attention to Eddie. Her interest in his job borders on being nosey, but Macie’s interrogation makes Eddie late for work, and he loses his job. Wow, what a strict boss. It doesn’t do a lot to endear her to Eddie.
Back at the apartment, Eddie is gone to clean out his desk at the office, and Macie talks the events over with her motherly building manager. Merton, the mousey soda jerk who had asked her out stops by, and Macie has to let him down. Maybe. She’s worried that she may or may not be over with Eddie. Will Eddie be willing to forget the whole thing with his lost job? Will Macie be going out with Merton or not?
In the office, that gal from back home stops in as Eddie is cleaning out his desk. Marsha has a job for him if he wants it. Will it lure him away from Macie? It’s the ideal job for his training. Marsha will be inheriting her dad’ business, and will be Eddie’s boss. He’s still stuck on Macie, and is excited to rush to tell her about it. When Eddie tries to tell her that his new job is at the power pant in Niagra Falls, Macie mistakes him as meaning that he’s taking her to the popular honeymoon location for the purpose of a honeymoon. I guess that lets Merton out of the picture.
The building manager has the full story, that Eddie is going with his new boss to Niagra Falls. Now Macie is down again. Does Macie stand a chance with Marsha as her rival? She goes to see him off for the train station. Her helpfulness in seeing him off is designed to do all she can in delaying him. When Eddie misses his train, he has lost another job because of Macie. Did she do the right thing? Will Eddie be upset at the developments? Will her date be back on with Merton?
Macie is back to moping in her apartment.
