Down in Pine Ridge Lum and Abner have been worrying over Squire’s injuries he recieved when he had a fall in their movie theater. They were a little relieved to know that he was well enough to travel to the county seat for business.
Today we find Abner deeply involved in a checker game with himself. Lum gets on to him for wasting time, and sets him on doing some chores in the Jottem Down store. Their gossip about certain townsfolks is interupted by Cedric. He has news about the movie that will be showing tonight. When Cedric leaves Lum turns the conversation to their worries over Squire, and how he is recovering, and why he went to hire a lawyer.
They think the lawyer is for some other business, but when they call Squire to offer help in his troubles Squire acts mad and hangs up on Lum. Then when Dick Huttleston brings a registered letter that turns out to be from Squires lawyers to sue them for damages for his injuries.
