Down in Pine Ridge Lum and Abner have to do their own carpentry after all their employees have jumped ship and went to work for Squire Skimp. Dick Huttleston checks up on the progress of their new theater business, and to let them know that they have been turning away business at their grocery store with their distraction.
Lum and Abner complain about the competition that Squire has posed for them. Dick offers some suggestions to help them out, and offer words of support. Will Squire’s flair for showmanship give them a run for the money, or will their friends in town stick by Lum and Abner?
Squire pops in to make yet another proposal to try to convince Lum and Abner to take him on as a third partner. Is this a sign that Squire realizes the competition is too much for him? Lum refuses him, and Squire renews his threats to drive them out of business.
