The big rival baseball game is to take place soon, and Stretch is being counted on to lead the team to victory as he pitches. The rival principle is trying to do all he can to keep Stretch from being eligible.

Conklin is being pressured into having Stretch pass a personally administered oral exam. At school, Connie and Boynton run into Walter. Walter tells how Stretch spent the evening at the circus, instead of studying.

Mr. Conklin calls the gang into his office to complain about his rival principle, Mr. Brill. Connie is invited, as are the listening audience members, to listen to the test. Barely passing, Stretch seems to be home free.

Mr. Stone drops the latest bombshell when he phones Mr. Conklin with news that Stretch may still be ineligible. It seems he wrestled in the circus as a masked contestant, and received prize money, making him be classified as a professional.

As a side topic, Connie may be in danger of losing her room with Mrs. Davis in a bet made on the game, but there is a bright spot in the mess. A loophole has been learned. Stretch is yet to be paid for his feats of boxing at the circus. If the circus champ can be intercepted and the money be diverted, Stretch won’t have officially received pay for his deeds.

There’s still plenty of time for mix ups, mistaken identity, and setups for some good old slapstick humor. Of course, Connie manages to save the day.
