broadcasting from Marine Corps Base, San Diego.
After a big buildup for the Marines, Don introduces what Jack thinks a Marine is. Don brings up Jack’s service in the previous war. What branch of the Marines did he serve in? Jack humbly admits he was a sailor, and tells Don about dealing with the Marine on one of his dates. Mary Livingston arrives and complains about her trip in the Maxwell. She also talks about a hotspot for the Marines where they have dining, dancing and wrestling. Phil Harris enters to talk about his Tijuana trip with his guitarist Frankie. As he gets ready to play, there’s a knock at the door. Will Jack answer the invitation to join the Marines? Phil Harris plays: He’s 1A in the Army in A1 in my heart.
Dennis arrives to talk about seeing a dinosaur. Well, make that Dinah Shore, which becomes a set up for one of Jack’s punny commercials for Don to do. Mary reads a poem she wrote. I Salute All You Marines. A Marine knocked at the door, and it’s the one Jack referred to earlier who rough them up on his date. Dennis sings: You Are Always in My Heart.
As Jack says farewell to his Marine buddy, Dennis tells how he got to be close friends with their guest star tonight, Joan Bennett. Joan arrives and is introduced to the cast. It’s like old times when Jack gets caught up after acting with her three years ago in Models and Artist Abroad. Does Jack still have his sex appeal with her? The reunion is interrupted by a phone call from Rochester. He has the Maxwell all gassed up, and wants to know what time they will be leaving in the morning. Has Jack caught him red-handed with a girl in the room? Joan has a farewell word for the troops.
