Lou talks about horses and giraffes in a Christmas parade. The topic switches to Costello being a world-class fashion designer. Manning the phones at Melonheads’ department store, Lou handles incoming phone calls. Abbott gets Costello confused over the term used for slippers, mules. Abbott thinks that Lou is not fit to work in the department store, and Costello begs him not to get him fired.

Costello shares a poem about mothballs. Lou waits on the movie actress, Bessie may Mucho. Getting her vowel sounds scrambled, she tries to buy some makeup. Lou’s girlfriend, Lena Gensta is jealous when she saw Lou talking to the actress. She also wants to know what Lou will be getting her for Christmas. After the argument, Melonhead enters, upset over damage that Lou has done to his store. It’s time for summer medial training and salesmanship. After some amusing role-play in customer service, has Lou learned anything?

Back in the department store, Lou plays with an electric train. Melonhead complains to Lou about his lack of sales. Costello gets his chance when Mrs. Niles enters. Will flattering her? Turning to Abbott, she claims to be looking for a gift for her husband. She tells about her past love life, but when she gets insulted by Lou is the last straw and the boss fires him. Lou decides not to hold a grudge, and decides to spend the rest of his money buying a gift for his aunt. The guys stop by the cosmetics department, and taught to a chatty saleslady. Costello was talked into trying out a weight loss machine.
