the mysterious ghost at Abner’s house is turned out to be his wife and daughter returning home. As we visit the Jot ‘Em Down store we find a very happy Abner, while Lum goes over the books. Abner resolves to treat his woman well and appreciate her more from here on out. He promises not to let his imagination get out of control again.

Abner breaks the news that Elizabeth is setting up a spare room in his house to keep the baby. Lum insists that the bring little Lum back to the feed room to sleep in his crib in the store. Abner insists that little Avery is content at his house. They bicker over who knows more about raising children. Lum insists on old-fashioned ways, and is concerned Elizabeth will try these new modern scientific ways.

The gents argue over whether little Lum should be named Avery or Charlie. Maybe Lum and Elizabeth could take turns raising the baby. Abner gets confused over Lum’s old Edwards sayings, “too many cooks will spoil the broth.” Abner worries that Elizabeth might be giving bean soup to the baby. Next thing you know Abner thinks his woman folk or going to burn his house down, and is all set to give Elizabeth an angry phone call. Whatever happened to controlling his imagination, and all that resolved?
