Lum and Abner A Ghost in Abner’s House. 420715

A black-and-white photo of Lum and Abner. Lum is on the left and has wavy hair and a mustache. He's wearing a suit and tie, and looks amused or curious. Abner is on the right, has messy hair and a beard, with exaggerated, surprised expression. He's wearing glasses and a dark suit with a bow tie. The composition suggests a comedic setting.

The old fellows are happily engaged in playing nursemaid to their new baby. With the baby napping, the gents keep their voice low as they discuss what they should name the baby. Abner is still worried about what he thinks is a ghost in his house as he listens to Lum claims the baby should be named Edwards. He tells Abner how the baby fell asleep while he was giving his speech for his upcoming event.

Abner has heard all of Lum’s speeches before, and begins to rattle off some of his favorite slogans. Lum assures him he has new material based on government information for the scrap drive. Sister Simpson phones the store, but will she be asking Lum to be their keynote speaker?

The phone rings again but it’s a character named the blindfolded wildcat. They figure it must be Cedric, since Mousey has taken to calling himself the masked muskrat. What’s the latest news of their detective work? Grandpap enters to add his two cents worth on the scrap drive campaign. Despite all the interruptions, Lum gets some main points out about what the drive is to be all about. Grandpa also shares the latest word on who is to give the speech tonight.
