Lum and Abner – A Baby At The Jot Em Down Store. 420703

A black-and-white photo of Lum and Abner. Lum is on the left and has wavy hair and a mustache. He's wearing a suit and tie, and looks amused or curious. Abner is on the right, has messy hair and a beard, with exaggerated, surprised expression. He's wearing glasses and a dark suit with a bow tie. The composition suggests a comedic setting.

After much worrying, searching, and fretting, no clue has been turned up as to Lizabeth’s whereabouts. Lum brings in a letter. Will it bring word of where Abner’s wife went to visit? Instead, we learn of Abner’s brother-in-law, and relatives who are working for defense plants, or other war relief work.

A strange car pulls up outside the store. As Abner jumps to conclusions, the gents describe the woman who is entering the store. The woman seems to have a lot on her mind, and leaves her baby in the care of Lum and Abner.

The fussy baby doesn’t respond well to the kind of singing that the gents offer. What’s taking the mother so long to return from Dick Huddleston’s store? Where is the car that had been parked outside? It’s leaving, and setting up the next story arc that will span the time until Lizabeth gets back… and beyond.

thanks for that information uncle Donny. When I first posted these notes Several years ago, I would have had no idea who those voices were. Lorraine Tuttle certainly had a wide range in her voice characteristics, but I would never have guessed that Jerry Hausner was the baby.

      • We were so fortunate to have people like Roz Rogers and Jerry Hausner as friends and associates who filled us in. Yes, Lurene Tuttle was an amazing actress! You’ll hear her again as Sgt. Hartford and Nurse Lunsford. Oh! And we can’t forget Ellie Connors!
