Passing through Wistful Vista, Gildersleeve takes Leroy to visit the McGee’s. They’re surprised to meet Beulah at the door. Though the McGee’s have left that morning, Beulah reveals she knows them from her friend Birdie Lee Coggins, Gildy’s own maid. As the guys enjoy a beverage, Gildy has a run in with the hall closet. Billy Mills plays, Take It Easy.
A visit from the theater manager, Sigmund Wellington tells his old friend Gildersleeve about his latest promotion at the movie house. In picking through the debris from the closet, Gildy proves he can’t play the mandolin any better than Fibber did last week. Harlowe Wilcox arrives to pitch the sponsor, and flub a line or two.
Gildy makes a phone call, but is side tracked by Mirt the phone operator, and her story of her wire-haired terrier being charged by the police. Doc Gamble pops in to get caught up with Gildy. The Kingsmen sing, You Can’t Say No to a Soldier.
Alice Darling enters to surprise Gildy, and talk about her being a border with the McGee’s. Beulah is back, but there’s no sign of the McGee’s. A letter left on the table may reveal why the McGee’s left in a rush.
Epilog: Gildy tells the real reason Jim and Marion Jordan were absent from today’s show. They didn’t fly the coupe on him; they’re just off due to being sick.
Note: Leroy claims to be collecting autographs. So far, he has Harlowe Wilcox, and Lum and Abner. Also, Alice is played by Shirley Mitchel. On Gildy’s show, she is Leila Ransom. She seems to almost slip into Leila’s Southern accent while telling Gildy about her job at the defense plant. Though the reason why the McGee’s are gone is given in the final lines of the show, the title of the episode tells the real reason.
