The phantom author has been secretly delivering chapters of a mystery manuscript to Lum and his new publishing house. Today he has promised to reveal his identity if Lum will be in the store at midnight. Since Abner has disappeared at the reading of the latest reading of the manuscript, it has Lum and Cedric spooked.
At the Jot ‘Em Down store, a masked figure approaches, and Mousey reveals his identity, and explains his pen name. What about Abner? How did he disappear, and where did he go? He explains it all, and we learn more about Mousey’s secret life as an author.
Listeners will remember some earlier items of the mystery. The missing clock where money was hidden, ghosts that appeared and disappeared, and more spooky happenings. Abner and Mousey reveal all the secrets, both that happened in the real world of Pine Ridge and in the storybook world of the phantom author. Is it the kind of story that Lum will publish? There’s still one more secret that needs to be exposed.
