Matt and Chester ride to a Homestead to check on the widow who lives there. In the quiet of the morning has broken when a rifle shot rings out. Ellen warns the law men to get off her land and stay off. Chester reminisces of how the young family came west just after the war, and how the years have not been kind to them. Back in town, as Matt and Chester wet their whistles they see Ellen son Luther. Can Matt patch up the broken relationship in the family? Since relationships are not his thing, Matt and Chester turned towards more casual notions to fill their time

Matt has to deal with the rancher who has missing cattle. Might Ellen’s son Luther be involved? More word comes in about missing cattle, and it’s the kind of business Matt can deal with handling.

It’s time to ride back out to face Ellen and her rifle. The old woman is less trigger-happy, and more willing to listen. As she tends to her chores, Luther manages to steal a horse and disappears. Is it to prove Matt needs that he is involved in the missing cattle incidents? Chester and Matt ride to town double. They may find that justice has been done regarding Luther when Ellen rides to town with Matt’s horse and tow. The blunt woman has a knack for stating the obvious. There’s a matter of closure that Matt needs and he follows Ellen on the trail back to her house. But she wasn’t going home. As Matt eves drops, he finds the secret of the rustlers.
