Matt in Chester enjoy breakfast together. A deputy sheriff from Richmond Virginia interrupts to ask for help in tracking some murderers that he’s looking for. A photograph gets Matt’s interest. It’s Doc, and Matt faces a difficult task of confronting him. He tries to approach Doc’s past diplomatically. Doc tells the story of his previous life. The southern belle, a hotheaded gentleman in a duel. Now Matt is confronted with turning over his friend to face the justice of his past.
In the long branch, Kitty shares with Matt about the visiting law man. How is his investigation coming along? Will Matt be willing to share with the visiting sheriff any news regarding Doc? On the streets, near the railroad yard shots ring out. Has someone tried to kill Sheriff Hunter?
Chester and Matt wonder whether Doc is desperate enough to fire those shots. They managed to find the other suspect the sheriff is looking for. Guns are out. Tensions rise, but with a patch job from Doc bunko, the gambler is ready to be turned over to the sheriff. Although Matt was hoping his friend would cut and run, Doc is tired of running. The medical emergencies don’t stop. It’s time to face up to Sheriff Hunter. Will he finally have his man?
