Lum and Abner – Car Pooling. 420507

A vintage advertisement for the radio show "Lum and Abner." It features black and white illustrations of two characters, each with distinct facial expressions. The text encourages listeners to "Listen and Laugh" and indicates the show airs "4 DAYS—EACH WEEK." The advertisement mentions sponsorship by Alka-Seltzer and One-A-Day Vitamin Tablets. It includes the station name "WAGA" and lists the broadcast times as "8:15 EWT-P.M.-7:15 CWT."

Getting clear of the apartment building plan, Lum and Abner are once again faced with how to spend that $10K that Diogenes left for them.

The whole situation of the failed apartment idea has the town down in the dumps. Cedric has joined our heroes in the Jot ‘Em Down store to iron out details on the topic of carpooling. Cedric and Abner think it’s some new way to wash cars, by driving them into a pond. Lum has to straighten them out on the concept, and that it’s a way to conserve fuel, and tires for the war effort.
Lum does his patriotic duty and wants to hang up the poster on carpooling in the store, he reads a few testimonial facts from it, then goes to get the word out on the party line. Lum tells Abner that the carpooling idea isn’t only for those in big towns, but an idea that even those in small towns ought to practice.

PS: Placed alongside the scrap drives to recycle metal, paper, glass, and more, it’s a good message not only for those war time years, but for modern times to help our environment. It’s a message to move from being selfish, to having an attitude of community.
