Fibber McGee and Molly – Smuggled Irish Tweed. ep516, 470513

A black and white photograph of Fibber McGee and Molly, a couple from a popular radio show of the same name. They are standing in front of a closet that has been opened, with clothes and other items spilling out onto the floor. Fibber is holding a mop and wearing an apron, while Molly looks on with a smile on her face. The overall effect is one of humor and domesticity, with the couple's playful antics and cluttered living space providing a snapshot of life in mid-century America in 1948.

Though the war is long over, and rationing pretty much a thing of the past, apparently bolts of Irish tweed cloth are illegal to smuggle into the country. Knowing better, Fibber is easily swayed into buying 3 bolts of the material. What’s he planning to do with it? What will he tell Molly about it? Lena the maid pops in to talk about her brush with working in pictures. Billy Mills and the orchestra play, Illusion.

Fibber wants to sell Doc Gamble enough yardage of the cloth for a new suit. As if on cue, the doc pops in to tease, and be teased. Is he in the market for a new suit? Well, not exactly. Maybe Fibber can interest Harlowe Wilcox in a few yards of the Irish tweed? Will Fibber’s quality merchandise hold up to Harlowe’s quality merchandise?

Teeny has news of going to the circus. She gets Fibber a little mixed up over what a Kangaroo is. You know the place where they have Kalamazoo’s… Or something like that. The Kingsmen sing, You Can’t Tell a Man by His Hat.

Wallace Wimple visits to talk about his latest troubles with his big old wife, Sweetie Face. He isn’t interested in the material, since Sweetie Face buys his clothes for him. Mayor Latrivia enters to talk about meeting Wimple in a Chinese restaurant. When the mayor tries to talk about making rice, even Wallace gets in on frustrating the mayor with a mix up over what a colander is. Will there be any late breaking developments over the smuggled Irish tweed?
