Fibber McGee And Molly – An 1880 Quarter. ep512, 470415

A black and white photograph of Fibber McGee and Molly, a couple from a popular radio show of the same name. They are standing in front of a closet that has been opened, with clothes and other items spilling out onto the floor. Fibber is holding a mop and wearing an apron, while Molly looks on with a smile on her face. The overall effect is one of humor and domesticity, with the couple's playful antics and cluttered living space providing a snapshot of life in mid-century America in 1948.

Out of breath, Fibber rushes in with important news. Has Fibber found a valuable coin? Did he leave it somewhere? Lena the maid enters to talk about some of her weird relatives. Down at Kraemer’s hardware store, Fibber tries to get his coin back that he accidentally spent. As he searches in the cash register, Billy Mills plays, I’ve Got a Girl in North and South Dakota.

Has Kraemer given the old quarter away as change? Taking a cab, Fibber tracks down Wallace Wimple to shake him down for the old coin. He tells how he played all his coins in slot machines, and the latest word on his big old wife, Sweetie Face. The trail leads to Harlowe Wilcox, who just won the jackpot on the slots.

Doc Gamble is the next one on Fibber’s warpath. Did he get that quarter from Harlowe? Does he still have it? The Kingsmen sing, I Tipped My Hat and Slowly Rode Away.

Fibber has somehow managed to get his quarter back, then Mayor Latrivia pops in for a visit. The mayor begins to talk about his military career, and gets the McGee’s confused about what a wild goose chase is. Other word definition confusions ensue that build to a frustrating slow burn. He has the last laugh though when he has some news that may start Fibbers chase all over again.

PS: I like Molly’s suggestion that Fibber was out of breath because someone was chasing him. That’s my usual excuse for running, “How big is the guy chasing me, or how cute is the girl I’m chasing.” Other than that, I avoid running at all costs.
