Box 13 at the Star Times. That’s the place to write to when you need some help from Dan Holiday.

As usual, a letter comes in to Dan’s office, but before there’s time to read it a man has followed Suzie to Dan’s office to say that he was curious about the ad, and wanted to meet Dan in person. He’s clearly a man with ulterior motives. As he distracted Dan and Suzie with his chatter, the letter that just arrived disappeared.

Three days later, a follow up letter from the same person comes in. The whole situation is enough to get Dan on the move to see what the unusual situation is all about. In a word, murder. And when Dan is thumped on the head, he wakes up holding the smoking gun. Dan is being set up, but he can’t figure out who.

It doesn’t take much investigating, and he puts the pressure on the man who wrote the letters. Facts emerge, and the two are soon playing the game together in finding out who the real killer is, and in dodging the cops.

It all seems to be about industrial espionage. In a tense moment, involving gunplay, the bad guy gets what’s coming to him, and of course, the cops show up just in time to clean up the mess.
