Lum now has his cookstove he needs for his bakery, and today the gents study up on where to put the stovepipe. As Abner works on cutting the whole, Lum jots down orders. He announces that they’ll have fresh-baked bread in the store starting today.
Grandpap has taken up his usual place in the library to read from the almanac, while Abner continues cutting the hole for the stovepipe. Lum continues to promote the availability of his fresh-baked bread to customers who call. The orders for bread keep on coming. As long as Abner is finished with that stovepipe hole, they had better get started baking.
With all the prittle prattle going on in the store, will it be too much of a distraction for Abner as he fits the stovepipe through the roof? Should he cut yet another whole? With setbacks in the stove installation, the pressure is still on for Lum would more phone calls for bread come in. Can he rely on customers to bake some bread for him?
