Outside, Gildy, Leroy, and Marjorie check the mailbox to receive a letter from Brink. The old college chum was idolized by Gildersleeve, so his excitement extends to the hero’s son. There’s no time to delay when Judge Hooker arrives so the two gents can car pool to work. Should an article be arranged with the newspaper, to welcome such a person as high in the upper crust as the junior Brink? Stopping in at Peavey’s drugstore, Gildy asks for some ice cream that’s fit for a millionaire. Can Peavey comply? Well, I wouldn’t say that. Maybe some good old pistachio will do.
Next, Gildy has to talk with his ex-fiancée, Leila Ransom. She seems to have stolen away the painter who had been on a job at his house. Will the former love birds be able to patch things up well enough to be civil at a social event?
A presentation from AFRS, and with commercials removed, enjoy a top tune of the day that was interjected: Mr Bluebird. Followed by more smooth dance music by Harry James, Would It Be Wrong.
It’s the morning of the big day, and Gildersleeve works out last moment details with his house maid, Birdie. The harried, over worked, maid has to put her foot down at the pile of jobs left for her. Taking Leroy and Marjorie with him, Gildy heads to the store for groceries. The fixings are enough to entertain royalty.
The painter has been back, but Gildy has to clean up the mess of tools, ladder, and buckets. That won’t make Mr Givens the Painter, mad, will it? Battle stations! Be on your best manners! The guests begin to arrive, wearing Gildy’s nerves to a frazzle. After making everyone mad at him, spending all his ration points, and everything, Gildy is deflated. Has his pal stood him up?
