Lum is learning the truth to that old proverb. The pressure is on with the insurance claim, and all the charity and good will the town is showering on him. How long will he be forced to let it go on? Lum fears the false insurance claim will land him in the penitentiary, but even worse is the wrath of the townsfolk who were fooled by his lie.
Abner gets confused over the fable of the boy who cried wolf, and somehow gets off on a tangent by a retelling of Red Riding Hood. Lum has Abner phone Doc Miller to learn just how long it takes for a broken bone to heal. It depends, but the doc claims from 2 or 3 months.
