Jack Benny – Professor La Blanc Gives Jack A Violin Lesson. 481205

Jack Benny and Mary Livingstone on the set of their radio show in 1942.

As Don takes the show to Jacks house, there seems to be trouble. Professor LeBlanc has jumped into traffic at the thought of giving Jack a violin lesson. Once he goes inside, the trials of giving Jacks lesson begins. Mary stops in, and is actually complimentary of Jacks playing ability. What’s up with that?

Don and Jack are still on the outs after their little argument last week, and Mary is caught in the middle. The two make up, and Don tries to do the commercial on his own as different Hollywood stars.

As Jack expects dinner plans, he gets a phone call from Phil instead of his girlfriend. Phil starts to talk about a hunting trip, and walks into a joke about bear hunting, and manages to get a plug in for the sponsor on his show. Watch for the bear hunting joke to be a running gag for a few shows in the future.

The whole time, Professor LeBlanc is still hanging around, waiting for his pay. Interruptions won’t stop, and Dennis arrives to joke about football games, and a joke about the recent presidential election where Truman beat Dewey. Dennis is just full of crazy comments, the cast flip a coin to see who has to respond to him.

Dennis sings, Say It Isn’t So. Will Jack ever pay for his violin lesson? Of course, but it requires a visit to his vault first. Just when Jack and Don are getting along so well, they end on another argument over a quotation.
