Great Gildersleeve – Royal Visit. ep101, 431121

Harold Peary at the microphone, wearing a suit and hat. A black and white photograph of Harold Peary, a man in a suit and tie, smiling and looking off to the side. He is standing in front of a plain background, with his hands in his pockets. Peary was a comedian and actor, best known for his role as "The Great Gildersleeve" on radio and television in the 1940s and 1950s. The photograph conveys a sense of classic Hollywood glamour and style.

Gildersleeve gets a letter from a guy who became the richest man from his college class. He even married a Countess. LeRoy and Marjorie plan on greeting them in style, as Gildy worries about who he should invite, and making sure everybody is on their best behavior.

Gildy makes the rounds to invite Judge Hooker, and tries to pick up something special from Peavey’s. He then tries to talk Leila into using her parlor to entertain his guests, but wants to have her spend the evening elsewhere. Will she go for it? I know I wouldn’t.

AFRS has removed commercials, so there’s a musical intermission by Kaye Kaiser, What’s the Good Word Mr Bluebird. Followed by his vocalist Harry Benet to sing, would it Be Wrong.

It’s the big day of the party, and Gildersleeve goes over details with Birdie. He has been demanding with all his friends, and now wants LeRoy and Marjorie to make plans to eat elsewhere, but still wants them looking spiffy when the guests arrive.

As time marches on, Gildy becomes more frantic. All the guests begin arriving, after all the big preparations, calling in favors, and the big disappointment. His friend had to cancel. Amazingly, all his friends that he has in town still manage to like him anyway.
