Although Jake has found himself the chief executive of the movie company, he still a little dazed. He sits at his desk, and tried to figure out how to use the telephone. Feeling a little crazy, he admits to Sydney that he wishes he was back in New York at his knee pants factory. Sidney explains why he needs to have a secretary to answer his phone. He also explains how the movie business is different, and that you make your product and send to distributors. As opposed to having customers come to the knee pants factory.
Harold enters to discuss with Sydney about directors and upcoming stories. The sons-in-law try to fill in Jake on what they were doing, but Jake still feels like he’s being left out of the loop. They fill him in in on some of the movie jargon that relates to their studio.
Jake can’t get used to the idea that he doesn’t speak to customers, and gets annoyed when phone calls are intercepted from him. Who is the mysterious woman who keeps calling? Why doesn’t she leave her name? Mama Bloom enters, with feathers duly ruffled to chew out the menfolk.
