Things are moving slow in Pine Ridge. In the Jot ‘Em Down Store, Abner and Grandpap enjoy a game of checkers as Lum reads the newspaper. At each news story Lum reads, Abner and grandpap comment that everything happened a year ago. Lum gets a kick out of being fooled by reading the old newspaper, then turns to offering advice with the checker game. There’s not much going on today, other than a typical, lazy day. Cedric returns from the county seat to talk about buying a farm. Abner isn’t happy over the news, until Cedric shares a secret about the property.
