Having just spent the Summer away on a USO tour to Africa, flashback to the moment when Don and Mary meet Jack at the airport. With all that brutal touring, will it have changed Jack? At any rate, Mary notices a difference when greeted with a kiss from Jack.
(Side Note:) In making announcements from the airplane’s cockpit, the pilot has a lapse into a Fibber McGee moment. See if you notice it? Also at the time, Fred Allen’s show had been off the air. Jack put a few of his voice actors to work in the first part of today’s show. Minerva Pious, and John Brown.
On the cab ride, Jack starts to brag a little. The cabbie interrupts with a comment that ends up being a running gag in the show, and for a few episodes to come. At the hotel, Rochester is there with a welcome. More bragging ensues in the hotel room, and a new nickname for Jack is revealed, Old Blood and Guts. Jack gets an update from his wacky border, Mr. Billingsley. Phil drops in to swap some jokes. Then Jack talks about his camel that he bought while there. Dennis Day pops in to talk about his summer happenings. He sings, People Will Say We’re in Love.
What would any trip be without souvenirs? Jack hands out the ones he has, and hits at more to come, as the show comes to an end.
