Jack Benny – I Got A Heavy Date. ep216, 360419

Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone and Don Wilson posing for a photo in 1938.

Jack comes out with compliments on Johnny Greens performance. Then a telegram arrives for Jack from a fan. The mother wants to learn more about Jack’s life, so it will be a role model to her son. Kenny Baker sings, Maria My Own.

The play begins with Jack meeting Mary. They inspire each other and get lifted out of their former despair. Time marches on in fast forward until the day that Jack became a success and proposed marriage to Mary. The audio cuts out at that point, but it’s pretty much the end of the show.

Despite being heavily snipped in the recording; the play is a very cute story of Jack and Mary’s courtship. Sort of truthful, sort of not.
