Dan Holiday takes to the hobo jungles to break an unusual and cruel racket.

Today he receives a letter to Box 13 that sets Dan on a new adventure. He goes to the park to meet with his red headed client, who tells him about his missing partner and friend. The man’s loyalty to his friend has Dan hooked. Dan hits the circuit of soup kitchens and charity establishments in search of Suki, the missing friend.
After partaking of the day in the life at the homeless shelter, Dan returns to his office to check in, and catch up on his mail. A letter catches his attention, and he’s off to the cops. Red turns up dead, and Dan is even more determined to figure this mystery out.
He stays in tight with the homeless shelter, and before long finds himself following the footsteps of his client to take a job with a wealthy philanthropist. Is he onto something? It wouldn’t be dangerous, would it?
Dan actually runs into the mysterious, and elusive Suki, and the puzzle pieces keep coming together. What kind of weird job is this? A crew of men who read and index magazines and aren’t allowed to leave. Dan learns what the scam is all about, and the philanthropist isn’t such a benefactor after all, but now that he’s in, can he get out?
