Tonight’s show is performed for the US Coast Guard as Kaye Kaiser jokes about the Coast Guardsmen and chasing girls. The audience is full of Spars, the female counterparts of that branch of military service during World War 2. The band kicks in with Sonny singing, Imagine You (Love, Love, Love). It’s followed by harry Babbage singing, It’s Spring Again.

Kaye’s gameshow begins with his usual style of telling a story, interspersed by popular tunes. The contestants have to guess the title of the song, which fills in a blank in telling the story. Knowledge of pop culture of the day is important, and with hints from Kaye that often give away the answers, you know it’s all just in fun.

To fill in some of the gaps, Kaye also whips out a few topical jokes that are sure to please the military men and women of the day. Along the way, a few celebrities who were in the Coast Guard are mentioned. A character, Bertie, with a raspy voice, who sounds an awful lot like Popeye, claims to be dating singer Dianne Carol, but doesn’t seem to appreciate her much. To take a break from the contest the band plays, as the singers sing, San Fernando Valley. Georgia Carol sings, Goodnight Where Ever Yu Are.

The second round of the game contest begins. The same flavor of musical fun, jokes, and military humor are dished out just as deep. Though some of the comments and jokes may be chauvinistic by today’s sensibilities, for the time, and since it’s the first time for women to be in the military on a widespread scale, they are simply typical for the society of the day.

Besides, that female Spar in the second round sure knows how to deliver a line. Is that redundant? Female Spar? How about Female Coastie.

The band performs, Poinciana. Followed by a hot swinging tune that I can’t quite place. Kaye announces the winner, and as often happens it’s a tie. winners get war bonds all around!
