Features Marie Wilson as Irma, and Cathy Lewis as Jane. The hectic life at her office has Jane down, and feeling distracted. She compares notes with Irma about farms, and the stock market.
An important phone call from the office comes in, but there’s a mix up due to party line cross talk. The professor drops in to use the telephone, but even he has trouble with party line chatter. What can be done to upgrade the line to a private one? Jane is still expecting an important phone call from work and it can’t be missed.
Who can pull the strings to get it done? Al pops in to share his latest business idea, and try to get some help with the phone line from his friend Joe. Jane acts on her own, and hits on the right argument with the phone company to secure her private line. Doing their own thing, Irma and Al try their hand at getting a private line, but it may do more harm than good.
Back at home, Jane waits for her important phone call, but unknown to her, the phone has been disconnected. Nervousness and guilt take over, but will Irma and Al get away with their crime against Jane? What about that important message? Should Jane tell her boss to buy, or sell? The wrong message could be disastrous.
When the news of the disconnected line comes out, will this be the end of a friendship? Is this the end of Jane’s job?
It’ll take lots of luck, and with a friend like Irma, only some pure dumb luck has a way of saving the day.
