Jack has returned from his Chicago trip he mentioned in his previous show. He tells the cast about his birthday celebration. Mary had claimed in the previous show that she was going to Florida, and today she seems to still be gone since she has sent a replacement to stand in for her.
After the snipped band number, Jack responds to a fan letter. The play begins as Jack introduces the Blue Moon Murder. Detective O’Benny is on the case to solve the murder. Racing to the crime scene, O’Benny isn’t immune to getting pulled over for speeding.
On the scene of the crime, O’Benny tries to find his killer in the… Bathroom? He doesn’t stop there, and makes the rounds to the rest of the crazy characters.
Note: The substitute actress standing in for Mary is Jack’s former girlfriend, and friend of Gracie Allen. Mary Kelley would become e part of the show through the late 1930’s when she left to be a regular on the Burns and Allen show. The story goes that Mary Livingston may have been a little jealous of the old girlfriend, and had something to do with her leaving the show. If this is true, I don’t know why Mary Kelley lasted for the 5 or so years she did on Jack’s show.
