Jumping ahead just a little, since there’s not much available for the 1938 and 39 seasons… In the Jot ‘Em Down Store we find Lum telling grandpap about his New Years resolutions. Lum is going to go to church, and stop smoking, which grandpap points out will be easy for him since Lum already does those things.
Lum also decides to be nicer to Abner. A noble thing indeed, but when Abner makes his appearance, he thinks Lum is up to something. Even worse, Abner takes offense at the kid glove treatment, and insists on being abused. What a guy.
PS: Don’t you love how folks in old time radio days weren’t afraid to express the fact they practice religious activity? It’s still good for you, despite what you may think. Make it your resolution this year too.
Amen to the idea of being faithful in church attendance as well as in service to others in the church family as well as those who are in need outside the walls of the church!
