Lum and Abner are anxiously awaiting the widow Beaumont’s arrival, after she sent a telegram to announce her coming to Pine Ridge to meet Lum.
Lum has gotten himself all spiffed up at Mose Moot’s barber shop, complete with hair dye, and nice smelly stuff. With his Adams apple caught in a stiff collar, Lum and Abner get in a slightly confused dialog about collars, and Adams apples. Lum claims to have nothing to worry about with winning the affections of the widow, and shares some of the tall tales he included in his letter he sent to her.
What will life be like once Lum marries the widow? An idyllic picture is painted by Lum. Just two people in love, and alone in the world. Cedric enters to talk about a big car with a chauffeur, and a bunch of kids poking their heads out all the windows. Not exactly the picture that Lum imagined.
