fter the postal inspector has taken the gents to Little Rock, Abner returns to tell grandpappy Spears all about the trip. Abner reminds grandpappy that their scheme to lower the price on stamps was against the law. Abner was set free. He is supposed to be running a sale at the store to raise money for Lum’s bail.
Squire enters the store, but he is certain that Lum is facing some serious jail time. Squire’s idea of helping is not to loan money, but to buy out Lum’s interest in the store. Abner gets confused over what Alcatraz is, and seems to believe it is a university.
Grandpappy and Abner compose a letter to vouch for Lum being an upstanding citizen. But who is that stranger who just entered the store?
