Dennis opens with a song, I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm.
Mrs. Anderson is in a bind when she is to throw a dinner party, and Mr. Anderson won’t be able to attend. The plan is to have Dennis stand in for him. Mr. Anderson helps Dennis try on his old tuxedo.
The big social event could be the chance Dennis needs to get in good with businessmen in town, and maybe get a better job. Mildred warns him off of trying any of the usual party games that he may be used to. Plans change when Mrs. Anderson runs into a predicament. She only has 16 place settings, and she invited 17 guests. Guess who gets the ax?
By now, Dennis had his heart set on going. He and Mildred come up with a plan to sabotage another guest to convince them to decline on showing up. Dennis fakes being an undesirable babysitter, and the lady cancels. To put it briefly, it doesn’t work. A replacement guest has been invited.
Now it’s back to the drawing board for Dennis. He gets to try to psych out a psychiatrist. Dennis shows off his voice talents to pretend to be a doctor, and if he’s lucky, he may be able to get someone else to drop out of the party. If I’m not mistaken, the lady in the doctor’s office is the voice of Thurston Howell III of Gilligan’s Island fame.
Though Dennis is successful, Mr. Anderson has more bad news that requires Dennis to create more havoc among the anticipated guests. Dennis manages to cause some marital strife between a couple of the invited guests, but returns home where Mrs. Anderson breaks more bad news.
Feeling bad for Dennis, Mr. Anderson pulls some strings to make sure Dennis gets in, but can anything else go wrong? You know it has to.
Dennis closes with a song, Terrera Terrera Trullah.
